Air shipment to Nigeria: Process & Procedure

When importing your goods, you may air ship your goods into Nigeria so we thought we would give you a few key information on the process and the procedure.

Air shipment is the transportation of certain goods/cargoes by air (Aeroplane) to another country.

Duration:
Air shipments usually takes hours or a few days to arrive at its destination. Due to the short arrival time, attention to documentation is very paramount.

For importers to commence any air shipment, they must follow the procedures below;

  • Make enquiries from their Authorised Dealer Bank (ADB) to know if the items are regulated by the
  • Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON)
  • Where items are regulated, the Importer informs the exporter to contact COTECNA for Product Certificate (PC) issuance.
  • Ensure that their Product Certificate (PC) is ready during the buying negotiation period.
  • The Product Certificate (PC) is ready for the Form M.
  • Approach their Authorised Dealer Bank (ADB) to process the form for approval.
  • Send the Form M to their exporter who will in turn forward all relating documents to the International Accreditation Firm (IAF).
  • Exporter presents the goods to COTECNA for inspection and issues a SONCAP for clearance of the goods at the airport.
