How to ensure your documentation gets the green light when importing into Nigeria

Anybody who needs to import goods into Nigeria should be aware of the following requirements and the necessary documentation for successful Customs clearance.

1. A Product Certificate (PC) is required for Form M processing. In order to obtain it, you need the following documents:

  • Test reports from an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory
  • ISO 9001 certification
  • In-house test report
  • Declaration of Quality

2. A SONCAP Certification is required for clearance of goods at any Nigerian port. Before the SONCAP certificate (SC) is issued, a valid Form M – generated through the above mentioned PC - must be processed by a Nigerian Authorized Dealer Bank and accepted by Nigerian Customs. In short, to obtain a SONCAP certificate the required documents are:

  • Bill of Lading
  • Final Invoice
  • Packing list
  • Product Certificate
  • Valid Form M

Both the Product Certificate and SONCAP Certificate must be activated on the SONCAP website before being used for processing the Form M, in the case of the PC, and PAAR for clearance, as far as the SC is concerned.
